Hey there,
A ton of stuff happened this week. I'm going to just type up my journal entries
for the past week so I don’t miss anything:
10-29-12 ...This evening we met with a man named B. We ran into him looking for a member of his
extended family who is a member of the church.
B was very friendly and showed a strong belief for the importance of
what we have to share. He however came
straight out and told us that he had been in prison for sleeping with a
minor. That will be difficult to work
around, but he does show a good amount of potential.
10-30-12 We had two
miracles today. During our morning comp
study we read the white handbook, and the second after we read about service we
got a phone call. It was the local YMCA
asking us if we could provide service tomorrow with their Halloween
activities. Then this evening we went to
go see D again. We called a sister to
see if she could accompany us and she half-heartedly agreed. When we showed up she said she wasn’t happy
to be there because she was missing her TV. program. We went in and taught the restoration again
so D could comprehend its significance.
We watched the restoration dvd and afterwards the sister had a complete
change of heart. She expressed how sorry
she was for her bad attitude and how she had never seen that movie before and
felt the spirit powerfully. She told us
that she would be available anytime in the future when she was needed to do the
Lord's work. It was incredible to see
her change of heart. We also visited
with G and discussed what he had read in 3 Nephi 11. We
explained the nature of the godhead using the first vision, John 17:20-23, and
1 John 4:9. He wouldn't abandon his Pentecostal
upbringing and returned the Book of Mormon we had given him.
10-31-12 It’s
Halloween! We went and taught
the B’s and then provided service for Bro. H preparing his water barrels for
storage. The fun began when we went to
the YMCA and supervised their bounce house, and seeing all the costumes. Then we went home at 6 because we weren't aloud to work, and made chili dogs while we watched 17 Miracles.
11-1-12 We had
district meeting this morning and then Elder Vawdrey and I headed down to
Norton, Kansas for exchanges with Elders Evans and Levitt. I got a nice tie from Elder Levitt and picked
up a suit, hat, and cane no one wanted.
Elder Levitt and I went out this evening and met with a hysterical less
active member. The best way to describe
him is that he looks like Donny Osmond from 'Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat'
but acts like Jack Black from 'School of Rock'.
11-2-12 Another
exchange, this time with Elder Evans, and the Lord guided us. They have very little people to work with so
we tracted the afternoon away. We were
walking up one street and a man pulled into his driveway up the street. He got out, grabbed his dog from the truck bed,
and headed in. As we walked up to his
house we were debating whether or not to knock it. We felt awkward since he had probably seen us
and didn’t want to interrupt him as he settled down. As we walked past I had the thought come to
my mind of that man one day in the spirit world confronting me and asking why I
didn’t share our message with him. With
that thought I immediately turned around and we knocked his door. He opened up and let us in. We taught him and discovered he was high
school buds with their ward mission leader.
We left him a Book of Mormon and left.
I'm so grateful that the Lord rebuked me and I was able to fulfill His
will. We then knocked another
neighborhood and were let in by an extremely friendly old man. He is a large Romney supporter and was
interested to discover what we believe. We
met his wife and she was equally as friendly.
In that one afternoon with the Lord's direction we doubled their
investigator pool. We finished the
exchange and headed out to teach V & H once again. Things have been slow helping him take the
steps to get permission for baptism, but hopefully we'll get some results soon.
11-3-12 Awesome
things happened today. Firstly, we met
with G and reset her for baptism on Nov. 24th and all looks good that we'll be
able to make that date. We also went
over to see F & M. We were expecting
to commit them for baptism and then tell them they needed to get married, but
instead we got a surprise. They had been
listening to the bible on tape and felt guilty for committing fornication, so
they were quietly married back in August.
We were completely stunned. They didn’t
get set for a date because they still want to learn more but they feel really
close. F insists that when he’s baptized
that he wants it in a river. His perspective
is that when he’s washed clean he wants running water to carry the sins away so
he doesn’t come up with them. We went and visited with Bro. F. He won’t
come to church because of grudges with the members. We went to see his wife who had opened up a
taco trailer and they gave us free food.
11-4-12 It was a long
day at church because of a headache I had.
We got Bro. G to come with us to an appointment but it fell through so
we helped him get his home teaching done.
He invited us over for dinner at his home. We had a great time playing with their kids
and the food was great. They're such a
sweet family. We finished up visiting
with some less active families.
So that’s’ all that
happened. I'm sending a package home
today with letters that I've collected, some music, and my first completed
journal.
