And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them. Butterflies & Bulletproof Vests

Hey,

We didn’t get the apartment like we hoped. It was just too much and the office wouldn’t have it.  There’s no other options that would work within our area so we're staying in the same apartment.  We're thinking of bombing out the cockroaches this coming week and hopefully that helps for a little while.

A's baptism

Good news, we've got three baptisms coming up!  All of them are kids too.  The first is A (the daughter of the newly reactivated family) her baptism is coming up this next week.  Next we have S’s two boys F (9) and M (8).  We asked them if they were willing to baptized and they full heartedly agreed.  They love church and are eager to receive that ordinance.  Fernando found out our first names this last week and since then has been calling us by them.  I'll admit, it’s really weird to hear Tim used again.  Their baptism is set for the 18th of this month and at the moment there’s no foreseeable problem.  C (S’s boyfriend) however doesn’t have a baptismal date.  He doesn’t have any immediate interest in joining the church (he has the stereotypical Latino viewpoint that all churches are good and that means I don’t need to find out which is true).  He'll be a tougher cookie to crack but we're trying still.

We also had a scare when we went over to F’s the other day.  We pulled onto her street to find a group of roughly 20 cops in bulletproof vests at her house talking to her and her mother.   We didn’t want to interfere so we left and came back in an hour.  Apparently they were looking for a child molester that was thought to be in the area.

Yesterday we had a the opportunity to go to a special stake fireside.  About a year ago one member of the Osmond family served his mission here and so he and some of his family came back to do service, and while they were here they spoke at this fireside.  We took R and enjoyed spending the evening listening to them.

A couple cool things that I learned: 1) the Christus on temple square is signing I love you with his right hand.  2) They shared an analogy of a newly hatched butterfly.  A young boy collected a caterpillar one day and put it into a jar.  He cared for it until it became a cocoon, and then hatched.  While it was hatching the young boy noticed that it was having difficulty getting out of its cocoon.  So he ran to another room and grabbed a pair of scissors.  He came back and cut the cocoon open for the butterfly.  Oddly out came a fat butterfly with small, wrinkled wings.  Curious, the mother and son went to science professor to see what the matter was.  He told them that the butterfly was meant to struggle, that only after the struggle would its wings develop and it would be able to fly.  They then compared it to our lives and struggles.

After the fireside we took the other Spanish elders home to their apartment and Elder Moore reported their numbers to the zone leaders.  After he had done this it was 5 minutes till bedtime.  So we decided to stay the night.  We borrowed some clothes, they moved their mattresses together, and we spent the night as a district.  Tons of fun, but no one got much sleep.  Oh well, today’s pday anyways :)

That’s about it for this week.  I got the photos, cds, and memory card.  Thank you so much!!!!  The cds work.  The pics were great, maybe I'll get some later in the mish of all the family doing a tri together.  Photos will be on their way soon.

Love you all, take care,
E' Harker
